Restart Windows NT Workstation 4.0

Users of Windows 98 making a move to Windows NT will want to take note of this tip. If you’re used to doing a quick restart of your machine by selecing Start–Shutdown and then selecting the “Restart the computer?” radio button and holding down Shift while clicking OK; you’re in for a surprise. Instead of simply restarting Windows NT Workstation 4.0, you’ll get a complete computer restart. Windows NT 4.0 doesn’t support “Shift-Restart.”

To restart Windows NT Workstation 4.0 without a complete computer restart, click Start, Shut Down. Select the radio button labeled “Close all programs and log on as a different user?” and click Yes to continue. When the log-on dialog box appears, log yourself in again.
